Nate Sloan is a musicologist and performer who researches jazz, Tin Pan Alley, and popular music. His chapter on Gershwin and instrumental jazz is forthcoming in The Cambridge Companion to George Gershwin, and he is preparing a book manuscript on the history of the Cotton Club.
